    Run-DMC

Future archaeologists will discuss two periods in 1980s: before Run-DMC and after Run-DMC. It's no exaggeration to say that the group
changed the course of music in the '80s, bringing the old-school of rap into the new with one simple piece of flat, black plastic.

Coming up in the rap world of the early 1980s under the wing of Kurtis Blow (group manager Russell Simmons managed Blow, and Run
was, at one time, a DJ known as "Son of Kurtis Blow") and Blow's bassist and burgeoning super-producer Larry Smith, the trio - Joseph
"Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell - learned from the best, but created their own path.

1983 was the year that they first broke out. With only an Oberheim DMX drum program and some cuts by Jay, "Sucker M.C.s (Krush-Groove
1)" was a shot across the bow to the slick, post-disco pocket rap had settled into. It was raw, pure swagger and it took both New Yorkers
and music aficionados around the world by storm. The song's lyrics are a mandatory memorization assignment to this day by MCs learning
their craft. "Two years ago, a friend of mine "

The group's sound, which was laid out muscularly on Run-DMC, had a harder approach than their peers, thanks to producer Larry Smith's
use of live musicians who laid down grooves but didn't soften the edges. Lyrically the group wasn't just about brags either, with songs like
"Hard Times," "It's Like That" and "Wake Up" (the first two were singles). Run's and DMC's overlapping tag-team approach to lyricism was
    powerful and immensely influential.

"Rock Box," another single and arguably the centerpiece of the album, was a nod to their hard edge, and a foreshadowing of their first
worldwide smash, 1985's "King Of Rock." Jam Master Jay's DJ work was stellar, knowing exactly when to jump in and put listeners' ears in
    a headlock.

The album was the first rap full-length to achieve Gold status, and as fans know, the group was just getting started - their next two LPs would
take them to even higher status in the music world, critically and sales-wise. But this is where it all started, and it's a classic that still sounds
fresh today as it did more than 30 years ago.

Shout At The Devil (Awaiting Repress)

Limited Edition (1500) Translucent Red With Black Vinyl

Shout at the Devil is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Mötley CrÜe, released on September 26, 1983. It was the band's breakthrough album, establishing Mötley CrÜe as one of the top selling heavy metal acts of the 1980s. The singles Looks That Kill and Too Young to Fall in Love were moderate hits for the band.

Shout at the Devil was Mötley CrÜe's breakthrough success, bringing them to international attention. The album's title and the band's use of a pentagram brought the band a great deal of controversy upon its 1983 release, as Christian and conservative groups claimed the band was encouraging their listeners to worship Satan. The album was one of the breakthrough releases of what was to become the 1980s hair metal movement, and was very influential in that regard. Available for first time in translucent red w black vinyl.

    Mendelssohn & Bruch Violin Concertos

Karajan took the young Anne-Sophie Mutter under his wing in the early 1980s and together they produced the of
Mendelssohn's and Bruch's famous violin concertos. Mutter said: "Karajan taught me to find the common thread
that runs through a score, to think the music through to its logical conclusion not simply to juxtapose notes in long
overarching paragraphs but to place them in the service of the musical idea. This is something that has lodged in

LA-based trio LANY make music that aims an arrow at your heart; beautiful songs with swashes of synth, often spare percussion, echoes of prime 1980s FM pop, of early-1990s R&B, of new-wave electronica, combining melody and lyrics to put down roots in your head. Recorded in a tiny room on an ancient laptop, their songs are devastating and beautiful, in a way that you can't quite explain.

Robert Crotty With Me: Loren's Collection (1979-1987) (Pre-Order)

Unheard 1970 And 1980s Recordings By Legendary Avant Guitarist Loren Connors

The First Anthology Of Blues Guitarist/singer Robert Crotty

Include Bonus CD Of Crotty's Late 1980s Ultra-rare Lp And 7-inch Released On Connors' Private Label

In the years 1978 to 1981, Robert Crotty would show up
on Loren Connors' doorstep in New Haven, Connecticut
with his tiny, almost toy guitar. The two would then spend
hours playing acoustic blues, the likes of which was absolutely
    staggering in its truthfulness.

"Robert Crotty with Me: Loren's Collection (1979-1987)"
is the first anthology of the late bluesman's work, as selected
by Connors, his former playing partner and avant
blues master. These are the unheard tapes of Crotty and
Connors communing with the spirits of Delta and County
Blues through their own revisions of standards and tingleinducing
improvisations. These also some of the Connors'
earliest available recordings showing the development of
his iconoclast guitar style and vocal moan.

Crotty was a New Haven lifer and linchpin of the region's
blues scene yet, he never achieved much recognition outside
local bars and house parties - until now.

The album features never before heard recordings, unseen
photos, liner notes by Connors and Crotty's brother plus a
bonus CD: the first-time reissue of Crotty's ultra rare sole
LP "Robert Crotty Blues" and 7-inch -- both released on
Connors' private St. Joan imprint in the late 1980s.

    These People

The second coming of the Dicks began in San Francisco, 1983, when Gary Floyd relocated to a new city and reformed the groundbreaking band with a new lineup. Eschewing the traditional hardcore formula, Floyd along with drummer Lynn Perko, guitarist Tim Carroll and bassist Sebastian Fuchs evolved a more mature punk sound while still retaining their political edge.

This incarnation recorded the Peace? 7 and their second and last studio album These People (1985). They disbanded in 1986 and Floyd and Perko went on to form Sister Double Happiness. Zapp I

Zapp (also known as the Zapp Band or Zapp and Roger) is undoubtedly the most influential group in the Electro sub-genre of Funk. The group received attention in the early 1980s for implementing heavy use of the talk-box, which became one of their most well known characteristics. Zapp served as partial inspiration toward the creation of the G-Funk sound of Hip Hop popular on the West Coast of the United States in the early to mid 1990s, with many of their songs sampled by numerous Hip Hop artists, most notably Dr. Dre.

The original line-up consisted of four brothers-Roger Troutman, Larry Troutman, Lester Troutman and Terry Troutman-and non-Troutman family members Bobby Glover and Gregory Jackson. During their early stages, they worked closely with members George Clinton and Bootsy Collins of the seminal Funkateers of Parliament-Funkadelic. Their debut album I was released in 1980, having a P-funk reminiscent sound as a result of Clinton's and Collin's input on the production.

Zapp achieved most of its mainstream recognition from the single More Bounce To The Ounce from the same album, now widely regarded as a classic example of early 1980s electronic Funk. The single propelled the album to Gold status almost overnight.

California is the third and final studio album by Mr. Bungle and the follow-up to Disco Volante (1995). The American experimental band including Mike Patton (Faith No More, Tomahawk, Fantômas, etc) was formed in 1985 while the members were still in high school. Mr. Bungle released four demo tapes in the mid to late 1980s before being signed to a major label and releasing three full-length studio albums between 1991 and 1999. Mr. Bungle was known for its distinctive musical traits, often cycling through several musical genres within the course of a single song. Many of its songs had an unconventional structure and utilized a wide array of instruments and samples. Originally released in 1999 California was generally well received.

    Your Blues

Your Blues is a stunning collection of songs and craftsmanship. Bombastic and bold at times, quiet and
soothing at others, Your Blues has an almost theatrical quality that informs the compositions. Originally released on CD in 2004, Destroyer's sixth studio album is now widely available on vinyl, as the December installment in the Merge25 reissue series.

Recorded with the production duo JC/DC (aka David Carswell and John Collins) -- who aided in the creation of
Destroyer's first three discs -- Dan Bejar ditches the band format he used for 2002's This Night with tremendous results. Fusing a dramatic vocal style akin to that of David Bowie in the 1970s with 1980s studio achievers like Microdisney and Prefab Sprout, Your Blues is regularly breathtaking.

If I Should Fall From Grace With God

Reissue Of The Third Album By The Pogues Using 2004 Remastered Audio

The Pogues are a Celtic punk band from London, formed in 1982 and fronted by Shane MacGowan. The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in 1991 due to drinking problems but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacyon vocals before breaking up in 1996. The band reformed in late 2001, and has been playing regularly ever since, most notably on the US East Coast around St Patrick's Dayand across the UK and Ireland every December. The group has yet to record any new music and, according to Spider Stacy on Pogues.com, has no inclination to do so.

    Idlewild

Everything But The Girl was an English musical duo, formed in Hull in 1982, consisting of lead singer and occasional guitarist Tracey Thorn and guitarist, keyboardist, and singer Ben Watt.

Originating at the turn of the 1980s as a leader of the lite-jazz movement, Everything But The Girl became an unlikely success story more than a decade later, emerging at the vanguard of the fusion between Pop and Electronica.

Idlewild (1988), their most accessible recording, consists of eleven intimate songs. The setting is perfect for such moving compositions as Love Is Here Where I Live and Apron Strings. The album spawned the single I Don't Want to Talk About It, a poignant cover of a song by the late Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten which became EBTG's biggest hit to date, landing at the number three spot on the British charts. Start here, then go on to the rest of this remarkable group's catalog.

Like Some Kind Of Alien Invasion

With a musical career spanning more than thirty-five years, guitarist, sonic innovator, and two time Grammy nominee Tim Reynolds is known for his masterful command of melody and timing and for his uncanny ability to improvise on any instrument he touches. Having explored most musical styles, from rock, jazz and blues to classical and reggae, Reynolds' wide-ranging musical versatility is evident each time he picks up his electric or acoustic guitar. Technically brilliant, yet emotionally honest, Reynolds' music is inspired and authentic.

It was in the mid 1980s in Charlottesville, VA, when Reynolds founded his breakthrough electric power trio, TR3 (Tim Reynolds 3), known for their fusion of funk, rock, and jazz. He toured with TR3 during the 1980s and 1990s, using a rotating cast of musicians. It was at this time that he befriended Dave Matthews and their ongoing musical collaboration began. Tim eventually decided to relocate to Santa Fe, NM, and pursue a solo career. His musical progression continued throughout his many years on the road as a solo guitar wizard, playing for packed houses and to crowds who quickly determined that Reynolds is one of the most talented and thoughtful musicians on the circuit today. After a number of years in New Mexico, Reynolds relocated to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2007. After a chance meeting with two talented musicians, bass player
Mick Vaughn and drummer Dan Martier, a few rehearsals later and several stealth appearances throughout North Carolina, Reynolds decided to resurrect the electric TR3 and they've been touring ever since.

    Automatic (Awaiting Repress)

Automatic is diverse, refreshing and full of welcomed surprises. The boundary pushing album is a wide mix of genres, including rock, country, reggae, R&B, dub, island and 1980s sounding pop.The album features sixteen tracks, which feels really long-especially in these days of four-track EPs and iTunes singles. Similar to 2010s Timebomb, the album features continued collaboration with alt-rocker Lincoln Parish of Cage The Elephant. Along with members of Iration and JP Hesser of Castaway 7 Studios, Parish acted as a the album's co-producer.

Automatic starts off with the album's title track, which is a tribute to the band's dedicated fan base. The reggae-rock-dub tune is signature Iration and features a catchy chorus, along with an arrangement full of smooth baselines, keys and vocal affects. For longtime fans and reggae lovers, Automatic offers "One Way Track," "Go That Road," "Uptown" and "Mr. Operator." The latter is a roots reggae and R&B tune with an infectious chorus and hypnotizing layers of keys. "Go That Road" is a fun, country-reggae tune with a upbeat, catchy chorus, aptly-timed harmonies and relatable story.

Some of the album's strongest songs feature collaborator and co-producer Lincoln Parish. "Show Me" is a synthesized, 1980s-sounding dance tune with tempo changes and layered, echo-filled vocals. "Home" starts off with a country picking pattern and dust-bowl feel. The track then transitions into a bass heavy reggae-rock tune, before finishing with a alt-rock interlude/outro. The track is overflowing with sounds, which regrettably swallow-up the vocals during the song's chorus.

Finally, "Milk and Honey" is a reggae-funk-dance tune with shades of funk-soul phenom Robert Randolph. These songs might surprise some listeners and catch others completely off guard; however, these radio friendly tunes are a refreshing change from the often recycled sounds of the genre. The songs are welcomed editions to the album, and should help Iration expand to audiences outside the reggae-rock genre.

Automatic is hard to categorize. It's not really a reggae album or a rock album. And, it's not a pop album or R&B either. It's all the above. Automatic is an album for all listening moods. If you want some reggae, you got it; if you want to dance, you got it. If you want upbeat pop, you got that as well. The beauty of Iration's "all of the above" approach is that it is unique and refreshing, as well as unpredictable-which makes Automatic accessible to new fans while keeping the old ones satisfied.

    Murmur

Ranked 197/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

R.E.M. developed a strangely subdued variation of their trademark sound for their full-length debut album, Murmur by de-emphasizing the backbeat and accentuating the ambience of the guitars. Even though it's firmly rooted in the tradition of American folk-rock, post-punk, and garage rock, Murmur sounds eerily timeless, as if it appeared out of nowhere. Part of the distinctiveness lies in the atmospheric production, which exudes a detached sense of mystery, but it also comes from the remarkably accomplished songwriting. R.E.M. went on to produce a few albums that may have been on par with Murmur, but they never made anything that sounded quite like it. Reissued here on audiophile quality 180g vinyl with original packaging.
